Scorecard vs Scorebook vs Score Sheet

These three words get used interchangeably, but they are slightly different things.

Scorecard

One page, one game. Used for a single game. Print, fill in, keep. The most common format and what you probably want.

Scorebook

A bound book of scorecards — one page per game — plus season totals. Physical product with a cover, carbon paper, and a spine.

Score Sheet

Sometimes a synonym for scorecard, sometimes a simpler version without the diamond grid. Our score sheets are the simpler format — a batter, at-bat result, and inning totals.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a scorecard in baseball and softball?
A scorecard is a single-page form used to record every play of a game. It has a batting order grid where each at-bat is a diamond cell, a pitcher and catcher log, and inning totals for runs, hits, errors, and left-on-base. One scorecard per game per team.
What is the difference between a scorecard and a scorebook?
A scorecard is one page for one game. A scorebook is a bound book of scorecards for an entire season plus summary pages. Scorecards are easier to share and print on demand; scorebooks keep everything in one place.
Are these scorecard templates free?
Yes. All game-day scorecards (7-inning, 9-inning, baseball, softball) are free to download as PDF. Pitch trackers, stat sheets, and bullpen logs are also free. A few premium templates with live digital scoring live behind the subscription.
What size paper do baseball and softball scorecards print on?
All templates are US Letter (8.5 x 11 inches). Landscape orientation for most scorecards and pitch trackers, portrait for stat sheets and tryout cards. Print at 100% scale — do not shrink.
Which scorecard should I use for Little League?
Use the 7-inning baseball scorecard for standard Little League games. Combine it with our youth pitch tracker to meet Little League pitch count rules. If you want a custom 6-inning format specifically for Little League Majors and Minors, use the horizontal scorecard.
Do softball scorecards look different from baseball scorecards?
The diamond grid is identical. The differences are in roster rules (DP/FLEX in fastpitch), pitching stats (illegal pitches vs. balks), and catcher notation (passed balls more common in youth softball). Our softball scorecard reflects these differences.
