Hey Coach,
My name is Beau Branton. I played baseball at Stanford and professionally with the Seattle Mariners. Although I hung up the cleats a while ago, I stay connected to the game through coaching. I've spent the last 10+ years coaching youth baseball, co-ed softball, and in adult leagues.
I started Dugout Edge because I was tired of spending hours on admin work like setting up lineups and practice plans instead of actually coaching. But more than that, I kept thinking about coaches like my dad. He immigrated to the United States as a teenager and didn't know the first thing about baseball. But when I wanted to play, he showed up every day at the field and tried his best. He taught me you don't need credentials to be a great coach. You just need to care. Dugout Edge is the assistant coach he never had.

The Story Behind Dugout Edge
The Hours Nobody Sees
After coaching for over a decade, I knew the pattern. Sunday nights spent hunched over a spreadsheet, trying to build a lineup that gave every kid fair playing time. Juggling position preferences, making sure no one sat the bench too long, worrying about the parent who would inevitably ask why their kid played right field three games in a row. The admin work was eating into the time I could have spent actually coaching.
A Better Way
So I built a lineup generator. An algorithm that handles the fairness math so the coach doesn't have to stress about it. It considers position preferences, rest requirements, and batting order optimization to create balanced lineups in minutes. No more spreadsheets. No more guesswork. Just fair lineups that let the coach focus on the kids.
More Than a Tool
What started as a lineup generator grew into something bigger. Practice planners to help coaches run structured, productive sessions. A library of 100+ video-guided drills so coaches can teach proper fundamentals even if they never played at a high level. Coaching guides, expert articles, and resources that turn a willing volunteer into a confident coach. Because the goal was never just saving time. It was helping coaches become better teachers of the game.
