Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about using Dugout Edge.

How does Dugout Edge create fair lineups?

Dugout Edge uses algorithms to distribute playing time fairly within each game. The system considers position preferences, rotation rules, and playing time balance when generating lineups. It respects constraints like pitcher-cannot-return and max innings pitched while ensuring balanced playing time for all team members.

What data does Dugout Edge track for each player?

For each player, Dugout Edge tracks their name, jersey number, position preferences, gender, and field position assignments within each game. The lineup generator uses this information to create fair playing time distribution and position rotation for each game.

How does the position rotation system work?

When the rotate positions rule is enabled, the system avoids assigning the same player to the same position in consecutive innings within a game. Pitcher and catcher are exempt from this rotation rule. The algorithm scores position assignments based on player preferences, position scarcity, and rotation fairness to create balanced lineups.

Can Dugout Edge handle different league formats?

Yes, Dugout Edge adapts to various league formats including different inning counts, co-ed requirements, position restrictions, and special rules. Each team can have its own league settings that automatically apply to all lineup generations for that team.

How does the batting order algorithm work?

The batting order can be randomized or set manually. When randomized, the algorithm shuffles the order for each game. You can also manually arrange the batting order using drag-and-drop. The system supports both "all players bat" and fixed batting order size configurations.

What happens when players are absent for a game?

When you mark players as absent, Dugout Edge automatically recalculates the lineup to ensure the remaining players get fair playing time. The system redistributes positions and batting spots among available players while maintaining the rotation balance.

How does Dugout Edge handle co-ed team requirements?

For co-ed teams, Dugout Edge enforces minimum gender requirements for fielding positions. You can set the minimum number of male and female players that must be in the field each inning. The system ensures these minimums are met while distributing playing time fairly among all players.

What makes Dugout Edge different from manual lineup creation?

Unlike manual lineup creation, Dugout Edge automatically balances playing time within each game, rotates positions when enabled, and applies league rules consistently. It eliminates bias and ensures fair distribution of innings and positions for every player.
