What goes on a baseball scoresheet?
A baseball scoresheet records every play of a game. Core elements: batting order grid with a diamond cell per at-bat per inning, pitcher log, catcher log, inning totals (runs, hits, errors, left-on-base), and a header with teams, date, and weather.
Is a scoresheet different from a scorecard?
In casual use, the two words mean the same thing. In formal baseball, "scorecard" usually refers to the full diamond-grid format while "scoresheet" can mean a simpler tally without the diamonds. Our templates use the full diamond format — the industry standard.
Is the baseball scoresheet free?
Yes. All game-day scoresheets and pitch trackers are free to download as PDF. Some advanced tracking templates are behind our premium subscription, but everything you need to score a basic game is free.
How do I print the scoresheet so it fills the page?
In your browser or PDF reader, set print scale to 100% (not "fit to page"). Landscape orientation, letter size paper. Check that the batter grid on the printout is at least 5 inches wide — if it is smaller, scale was reduced somewhere.
Can I use the baseball scoresheet for softball?
Softball has some different rules (DP/FLEX substitutions, different pitching stats). We have a dedicated softball scoresheet that handles these. Use the softball version for ASA, USA Softball, or USSSA fastpitch leagues.
What does "error" vs "hit" mean on a scoresheet?
A hit is earned — the batter reached base because they hit the ball into play where the defense could not make an out. An error is when the batter reaches because of a defensive mistake (dropped catch, bad throw). Errors do not count toward batting average. Most scorers err on the side of "hit" when in doubt.
How many players does a standard baseball scoresheet fit?
Nine batting spots with subs rows on most templates — so 9 starters plus 6-10 substitutes (up to 18-19 total players). For youth leagues with continuous batting order of 15+ players, use our horizontal scorecard or fielding rotation card alongside.
