Frequently Asked Questions

How many innings does high school baseball play?
7 innings (regulation). Games tied after 7 go to extra innings. Our 7-inning scorecard has extra-inning columns to handle games that go past regulation.
Does high school baseball use a designated hitter?
NFHS allows the DH — the rule varies by state but most allow a DH for any one position. The lineup card lists the DH with position "DH" or "10". Our scorecard has a DH line in the batting order for this.
What pitch count limits apply at the high school level?
Most state associations follow NFHS recommendations: 30 pitches = no rest; 31-45 = 1 day rest; 46-60 = 2 days; 61-75 = 3 days; 76+ = 4 days. Check your state federation for exact limits. Track pitch count using our advanced pitch tracker alongside the scorecard.
Is the courtesy runner rule used in high school baseball?
NFHS rules allow a courtesy runner for pitcher or catcher with two outs. This does not count as a substitution — the courtesy runner can come back on defense the next inning. Note it as "CR" in the substitute log.
How do I track the batting average of individual players across games?
On paper, you maintain a running spreadsheet outside the scorecard. Or use our premium digital scorekeeper — it rolls up per-player batting average, OBP, SLG, and OPS across the season automatically from your game-by-game entries.
Can this scorecard be used for summer travel ball at 16U/18U?
Yes. 16U and 18U travel ball is typically 7-inning, same format as high school. Only difference is some tournaments use 9 innings for championship games — use the 9-inning scorecard for those.
