11U Baseball Practice Plan
11U is where real baseball starts to show. Infielders can turn a double play, the running game starts to matter, and pitch counts become a genuine management problem. It is also the first age where some teams leave the 60/46 diamond for the 50/70 field, with 70-foot bases and a 50-foot mound.
This free 11U baseball practice plan adds those pieces on top of catch, throw, and hit. Download a printable plan for ages 11 to 12 below, or open it in the free Practice Planner to adjust the timing and drills for your team.
What to Focus On at 11U
Turning two
Double plays become possible at 11U. Start with the feeds: the underhand flip from short and from second, then the pivot and the throw to first. Walk it through without a runner, then add one so the feed has to be on time.
The running game, by your rules
In Little League and most rec leagues, runners cannot leave the base until the pitch reaches the batter. Travel ball allows true leads, which brings pickoffs and holding runners into play. Know which rules you play under before you spend practice time on leads.
More than two pitchers
Pitch counts are rules with mandatory rest days, so one or two arms will not cover a season. Give every player who wants to pitch a short bullpen each week, and count every pitch in games.

| Time | Block |
|---|---|
| 0:00 - 0:15 | Warm-up and throwing progressionDynamic warm-up, then catch that builds out to the longest throw your field asks for. On a 50/70 field, the throw across the infield is longer than last year. |
| 0:15 - 0:40 | Infield and outfield groupsInfielders work double play feeds and the pivot at second. Outfielders work throws to the cutoff man, then the two groups join for relays. |
| 0:40 - 1:00 | Bullpens and the running gamePitchers throw short, counted bullpens. Everyone else runs rundowns, and travel teams add leads and breaks. |
| 1:00 - 1:35 | Live situationsLive at-bats with a runner on first so the defense turns double plays at game speed. Call the outs and the situation before each pitch. |
| 1:35 - 1:45 | Baserunning and huddleFirst to third on a single to the outfield, then review and preview the next game. |

How long should an 11U baseball practice be?
90 minutes to 2 hours. Players ages 10 to 11 can handle 20 to 25 minute blocks of position work, as long as most of that time is spent with a ball in play.
Should 11U play on a 60/46 or 50/70 field?
It depends on your league. Little League Majors plays 60-foot bases and a 46-foot mound. The Intermediate 50/70 division, for ages 11 to 13, moves to 70-foot bases and a 50-foot mound as a bridge to the full-size field. Practice at the distances you will play.
Can a pitcher go back to the mound after being taken out?
In Little League Majors and below, no. Once a pitcher is removed from the mound, he cannot pitch again in that game. Intermediate 50/70 allows one return per game if he stayed in the game at another position.
When should 11U players learn the double play?
Now. Double plays become possible at this age. Start with the feeds and the pivot at second, walk them through without a runner, then add a runner so the timing is real.
