8U Baseball Practice Plan
An 8U baseball practice works best when it is fast, simple, and full of touches. At this coach pitch and machine pitch stage, players are still learning to track a moving ball and make a clean throw, so the goal is high reps in short bursts rather than long instruction. Keep the whole session around 75 minutes with frequent water breaks and quick transitions.
This free 8U baseball practice plan uses small stations so no one stands in a long line. Download the printable PDF below, or open it in the free Practice Planner to swap in the drills your team needs this week.
What to Focus On at 8U
Catching and throwing first
Most outs at 8U come from clean catches and accurate throws, not from fancy plays. Spend the most time on short-distance partner throwing, glove-side footwork, and fielding slow ground balls with two hands.
Hitting off the tee and front toss
Build a repeatable swing with tee work and front toss before facing live coach pitch. Three or four good swings per rotation beats a long line where each player swings twice.
Baserunning and fun
Finish with a baserunning game or relay race. At this age, ending on something competitive and fun keeps players excited to come back.

How long should an 8U baseball practice be?
About 75 minutes. Attention spans are short at ages 7 to 8, so keep activities to 8 to 10 minutes each with quick transitions and a water break in the middle.
What should I focus on in 8U baseball practice?
Catching, throwing, and a repeatable swing. Spend most of practice on short-distance throwing accuracy and tee or front-toss hitting, then finish with a fun baserunning game.
How many drills should an 8U practice have?
Three to four short stations plus live at-bats is plenty. Fewer, well-run stations with high reps beat a long list of drills players barely get to.
