How to Run This Drill

  1. Divide team into groups of five
  2. Coach stands 15 feet away with a ball
  3. All five players get down on both knees (not resting on heels)
  4. Players place fingertips of gloves on the ground
  5. Coach rolls grounders to each player one at a time
  6. Players field and throw back without standing up
  7. Work down the line, then roll backhanded grounders on the way back

Coaching Points

  • Use both hands - close glove like an alligator
  • On backhands, scoop the ball properly
  • Award points for clean fields to make it competitive
  • Can do the same drill for popups
