Throwing Drill: Over Under (Baseball & Softball)
Partner drill practicing both overhand and underhand throws. Infielders learn to handle different throw types they may encounter in a game.
How to Run This Drill
- Divide players into pairs spaced about 15 feet apart and give each pair a ball.
- Within each pair, one player will throw overhand and the other underhand.
- On your call, they throw the ball back and forth. No matter how they are sending their partner the ball, the thrower must make eye contact with their teammate.
- After 10 throws, players swap roles so everyone gets a chance to try both styles.
- Pairs get a point for every ball they catch. The team with the highest score after 20 throws each wins.
Coaching Points

- Prepares players for all possible game throws
- Whether fielders choice or turning two, throws may vary
