Catching Drill: Blocking Side-to-Side Drill (Softball)
Improve lateral blocking ability for pitches in the dirt to left and right, developing quick feet and proper blocking angle.
Instructions
1. Catcher in receiving position 2. Coach throws balls in dirt to left and right 3. Catcher moves laterally and blocks 4. Focus on getting body in front of ball 5. Keep chest down and glove between legs 6. Recover quickly after each block
Coaching Points
- Lead with near foot, follow with far foot
- Angle body to keep ball in front
- Don't reach with glove only
- Create a wide base
