Throwing Drill: 21-Point Throwing Accuracy (Baseball & Softball)

Competitive accuracy game to reinforce consistent chest-high throws under light pressure.

Instructions

Setup: - Partners pair up with gloves - Mark distance at 40 feet (adjust for age) - Each pair needs 3-5 baseballs - Optional: use targets or strike zone frames 1. Explain Scoring System - Chest-high catch (perfect throw) = 3 points - Shoulder-high or short-hop (good throw) = 1 point - Wild throw requiring partner to move significantly = 0 points - First pair to exactly 21 points wins 2. Game Mechanics - Partners throw back and forth, counting points - Receiver judges if throw was 3, 1, or 0 points - Must be honest and fair in judging - Keep running total in your head 3. Advanced Variations - Set 2-minute timer - most points in time wins - Bust rule: if you go over 21, reset to 15 points - Move back 5 feet after each perfect throw - Competition between pairs for ultimate champion 4. Rotation Strategy - After each game (first to 21), rotate partners - This prevents always throwing with same person - Builds adaptability and throwing to different targets - Run tournament-style for large groups
