Outfield Drill: Outfield Fungos (Baseball & Softball)

Standard outfield practice with fly balls to all positions. Include throws to cutoff men and bases.

How to Run This Drill

  1. Position outfielders in left, center, and right field. Place a cutoff man between the outfield and infield.
  2. Coach hits fly balls to each outfielder in rotation, varying the types of hits.
  3. Mix routine fly balls with balls over the head, line drives, balls in the gaps, and balls requiring running catches.
  4. After catching, outfielder throws to the cutoff man or a designated base.
  5. Cutoff man relays to the appropriate base depending on the game situation called out.
  6. Rotate positions after each round so players get experience in all three outfield spots.
