Throwing Drill: Long-Toss Golf (Baseball & Softball)
Fun accuracy game where players throw at targets in the outfield like golf holes. Builds arm strength through long tossing while developing accuracy.
How to Run This Drill
- Place a cone or target in the outfield far enough to challenge arm strength.
- Draw or tape a circle around the target to represent a golf green.
- Each player throws toward the target, trying to land on the green or hit the pin.
- Award points for landing on the green or hitting the target. Closest to the pin gets bonus points.
- Can set up multiple holes for a full course or use the same target repeatedly.
- Limit to 25-50 throws per player. Do only once per week for younger players.
Coaching Points
- Throw with an arc to build arm strength - no pop-ups
- Shoulders should stay on the same plane throughout
- An accurate one-hop throw is better than a wild long throw
- Keep proper throwing mechanics even during competition
- Great for developing arm strength with a purpose
