Outfield Drill: Crow Hop Throwing (Baseball & Softball)
Teaches outfielders the crow hop footwork that generates momentum and power for strong, accurate throws to the infield.
How to Run This Drill
- Players partner up across the outfield grass, about 60-80 feet apart.
- Start without balls - practice the crow hop footwork: catch position, small hop onto throwing-side foot, step toward target with glove-side foot.
- The hop generates forward momentum toward the target.
- Once footwork is solid, add the ball. Catch a tossed ball, crow hop, and throw to partner.
- Progress to catching fly balls and making crow hop throws to a cutoff man.
- Focus on a quick, low hop - not a big jump that wastes time.
Coaching Points
