Throwing Drill: Bat Knockdown Throwing Game (Baseball & Softball)

Competitive throwing accuracy game where players try to knock down a bat standing on home plate. Great for developing aim while keeping practice fun.

How to Run This Drill

  1. Stand a bat vertically on home plate with the knob on the ground.
  2. Line up all players at a set distance based on age and skill level - start close for younger players.
  3. Players take turns throwing at the bat, trying to knock it down.
  4. For knockout version: first player to knock it down wins and steps out, then move remaining players back.
  5. For winner-take-all: set a challenging distance and first player to hit the bat wins.
  6. Keep score to add competition and move to different spots around the field.

  • Focus on accuracy over arm strength
  • Use proper throwing mechanics even in a game setting
  • Adjust distance so players have a chance at success
  • Great way to end practice - kids love competition
  • Teaches aiming for a target under pressure
