Fun Drill: Coach-Pitch Scrimmage (Baseball)
A structured scrimmage where the coach pitches and players are divided into teams small hitting teams (3-5 players). Each team bats until they get 3 outs, then rotates. Great for game-like reps in a controlled environment.

How to Run This Drill
- Divide players into 2-3 equal teams based on roster size (e.g., 12 players = 3 teams of 4, 10 players = 2 teams of 5)
- One team bats while the other team(s) field all positions
- Coach pitches from a comfortable distance, throwing strikes to keep the pace moving
- The batting team hits until they record 3 outs (or a set number of outs), then rotates out
- Next team comes up to bat, fielding team adjusts positions
- Continue rotating through all teams for multiple innings
- Adjust the out count (2 outs, 4 outs) based on time and number of players to ensure everyone gets quality at-bats
- For 3 teams: one bats, one fields infield, one fields outfield, then rotate all three
Coaching Points
- Throw hittable pitches to keep the game moving
- Rotate fielding positions each inning so players get reps at multiple spots
- Put players that play different positions on same team so defense is balanced
- With smaller groups (8-10), use 2 teams; with larger groups (12+), use 3-4 teams to reduce standing around
- Adjust outs per inning based on time: fewer outs means more rotation, more outs means longer at-bats per team
- Encourage baserunning decisions by placing runners just like a real game
- Use this as a chance to coach situational play without stopping the action too often
