Throwing Drill: 2-Line Relay (Baseball & Softball)
Competitive relay race between two lines of players. First team to get the ball from back to front wins. Teaches quick transfers.
How to Run This Drill
- Form two lines of players facing forward, all players looking at the back of the player in front.
- Place a ball on the ground behind the last player in each line.
- On the go command, the last player picks up the ball and throws to the player in front of them.
- Each player catches, turns to their glove side, and throws to the next player in line.
- Continue until the ball reaches the front of the line. First team to finish wins.
- Rotate players after each race so everyone gets reps at different positions.
Coaching Points
- Always turn to your glove side - never your throwing side
- Get the ball out of your glove quickly
- Make accurate throws - drops cost time
- Make it a competition between the lines
- Rotate positions after each race
- Quick release becomes a habit with practice
