Saving and Reusing Plans
Building a library of saved practice plans saves time and improves consistency. This guide covers how to save plans, work with templates, and reuse successful practice structures.
Saving Practice Plans (Premium)
What Gets Saved
When you save a practice plan, the system captures everything:
- Practice title and date
- Start time and duration
- Age group and sport
- Focus areas selected
- Full timeline with all blocks, stations, and drills
- Roster snapshot of players included
- Equipment list aggregated from all drills
- Coach notes on each station
- Coach count and field constraints
Plans are attached to your team (via team_id), so each team has its own library of saved practices.
How to Save
- Build your practice in the planner
- Click "Save" when finished
- The plan is saved to your account and associated with your selected team
Loading Previous Plans
Browse your saved plans and load any of them as a starting point for a new practice:
- Open the Practice Planner
- Browse your saved plans
- Select one to load
- The full plan loads into the editor
- Make any adjustments needed for today
- Save as a new plan or use as-is
This is the fastest way to plan a practice when you have a structure you know works.
Editing and Re-Saving
After loading a saved plan, you can modify anything and save it again. This lets you iterate on successful practices, adjusting drills or durations while keeping the overall structure intact.
Templates
Pre-Built Templates
The Practice Planner includes 25+ pre-built practice plan templates in the database. These are professionally designed practice structures organized by:
- Age group
- Duration
- Sport
- Focus area
Browse templates from the template browser within the planner. Select one to load the full structure, then customize it for your team.
Static templates are also available in the planner for quick access to common practice structures.
Save Blocks as Templates
Found a block structure that works well? Save it as a reusable template via the Save As Template modal. This lets you reuse specific blocks (like a proven 3-station hitting rotation) across different practice plans without rebuilding them each time.
Using Templates
- Open the Practice Planner
- Browse the template library
- Filter by age group, duration, or focus
- Select a template to load
- Customize drills, durations, or stations for your team
- Save as your own plan
Anonymous Plan Claiming
If you build a practice plan without an account (using the public planner), your plan is not lost. When you sign up, the system can claim your anonymous plans and attach them to your new account via the plan claiming API. This means you never lose work, even if you started before creating an account.

Reusing Plans Effectively
When to Reuse Exactly
Some practices should be repeated as-is:
- Pre-game warm-up: Consistency builds muscle memory and routine
- Skill progressions: Repeating the same drills over weeks shows measurable improvement
- Weekly routines: "Tuesday is always hitting day" gives players structure
When to Modify
Other times, load a plan and adjust before using:
- Seasonal progression: Start with fundamentals early in the season, progress to game situations later
- Addressing gaps: Team struggled with fielding last game, so swap in more defensive drills
- Different duration: Load a 90-minute plan but shorten to 60 minutes by removing a block
Building a Core Library
Create 4-5 core plans you rotate through the season:
- Full-Skills Practice: Balanced hitting, fielding, and running
- Hitting-Focus Practice: 3-station hitting rotation
- Defensive-Focus Practice: Fielding and team defense
- Game-Prep Practice: Situational work and live scrimmage
- Quick Practice: 60-minute version for weeknights
With a small set of proven plans, you can plan an entire season quickly by loading and lightly modifying each week.
