What This Printable Softball Field Shows
The four bases form the diamond: home plate at the bottom, first base to the right, second base up the middle, and third base to the left. The pitcher stands in the circle in the center, with the catcher behind home. The four infielders cover the dirt, and the three outfielders cover the grass beyond them. The white foul lines run from home through first and third to the outfield fence, marking fair territory. When you switch on the numbers, each position gets its scorekeeping number, so a ground ball to short and a throw to first reads as 6 to 3.
The 9 Positions and Their Numbers
Softball uses the same nine numbered positions as baseball, and they never change. Learning them makes scorekeeping, coaching, and reading a scorebook far easier.

5 Ways Coaches Use a Blank Field

On a 60-foot fastpitch diamond, home plate to second base is about 84 feet 10 inches straight across. That is the throw a catcher makes to catch a runner stealing.
