Everything You Need to Run a Practice
Pick a Practice and Go
Choose a ready-made practice for your age group and it starts right away. No planning first.
A Countdown for Every Block
Each block counts down from its length, with a big readout you can see from across the field.
An Alert When It Is Time to Move
A chime to wrap up two minutes out, then an alert at zero. Loud mode plays a horn even on silent.
Rotations That Call Themselves
Station rotations split the block into rounds and tell everyone when to rotate.
Auto-Advance
When a block ends, the app rolls into the next one on its own, so the practice runs itself.
Runs on Any Phone or Tablet
Nothing to install. Set it on the fence, keep the screen awake, and coach with both hands.
What a Practice App Does at the Field
Most practices do not run long because the plan was bad. They run long because nobody is watching the time, and the last block, usually the one the kids like best, gets cut. A practice app turns the plan into a live clock: each block counts down on screen, a chime says wrap it up two minutes out, and an alert at zero moves everyone to the next block.
Pick one of the ready-made practices on this page and it starts right away. There is nothing to plan, nothing to download, and the first few minutes are free with no account. Set the phone or tablet on the fence and coach with both hands.
Because it keeps the screen awake and can play a loud alert even when your phone is on silent, it holds up in the real conditions of a field: sun, noise, and a coach with a bucket of balls in one hand.
Want Your Own? Build It, Then Run It
The practices on this page are ready to run, but most coaches end up running their own. Use the free practice planner to lay out your blocks, drills, and station groups, then tap Run this practice to load it straight in here. For more plans to start from, browse the practice plans library by age and sport.
Run Every Practice, Start to Finish
The free minutes show you how it works. With a Dugout Edge account, Practice Day runs the whole practice and knows your team:
- Every block on the clock, start to finish
- Your roster at every station, so every kid knows where to go
- Attendance at the field, with groups evened out around who showed up
- Drills from the library, with steps and coaching points on screen
- Every practice saved to your schedule, with what you ran
No card needed to create an account. Practice Day takes a subscription, starting with a 7-day free trial.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the practice app free?
You can run the first three minutes of any practice free, with no account, to see how it works at the field. Running the whole practice, with your roster at every station and attendance, is part of a Dugout Edge membership. When the free minutes are up, create your account and the practice you were running is saved to it.
Do I have to build a practice plan first?
No. Pick one of the ready-made practices on this page and it starts right away, block by block. If you would rather use your own, build it in the free practice planner and tap Run this practice.
How does it work during practice?
Each block in the practice gets its own countdown. Two minutes before a block ends you get a soft chime to wrap up, and at zero an alert sounds and the app moves to the next block on its own, so the whole practice stays on schedule without you watching the clock. Station rotations count their own rounds and tell you when to rotate.
Will the alert be loud enough on a field?
The default chime plays over your music without interrupting it. Turn on Loud mode for a horn that plays even when your phone is on silent, which is handy on a noisy field or through a Bluetooth speaker.
Does the screen stay on during practice?
Yes. The app keeps the screen awake while it runs, so you can set the phone or tablet on the fence and glance at it between reps without it sleeping.
Does it work for softball?
Yes. The practices and the timer work the same for baseball and fastpitch softball, and the practice planner builds plans for both.
