Fun Drill: Water Balloon Derby (Baseball & Softball)
A fun end-of-practice hitting game where players swing at soft-tossed water balloons. Rewards good balance and a level swing with a satisfying splash.

How to Run This Drill
- Fill a bucket with water balloons before practice
- Line hitters up in foul territory with bats and helmets
- Kneel to the side of home plate with the bucket of water balloons
- One player at a time steps up and gets in their batting stance
- Soft toss a water balloon into the strike zone
- The hitter swings aiming for a big watery explosion
- Play until everyone has had a turn to get as soaked as possible
- Crown the player with the biggest splash as the winner
Coaching Points
- Remind hitters that a level swing with good balance produces the best explosion
- Players will want to swing wildly — encourage controlled swings
- Save this for the last five minutes of a hot practice day
- Great for reinforcing swing mechanics in a zero-pressure environment
