Infield Drill: Shorthop Gauntlet (Baseball & Softball)
Intensive short hop drill where fielders move through multiple stations, building quick hands and confidence on difficult hops.
How to Run This Drill
- Set up 3-4 stations in a line, each with a coach or partner who will create short hops.
- Player starts at the first station in proper fielding position with glove low and out front.
- First partner throws a short hop. Player fields it cleanly and tosses it back.
- After fielding 3-5 balls, player moves to the next station without rest.
- Each station can vary: forehand hops, backhand hops, directly at the fielder, or requiring lateral movement.
- Complete all stations, then rest while the next player goes through the gauntlet.
