Hitting Drill: Ready Aim Bunt (Baseball & Softball)
Bunting turned into a placement game with two cone squares down the baselines. Hitters score by dropping the bunt inside a square rather than just getting it down.

How to Run This Drill
- Use cones to mark two five-by-five-foot squares, one down each baseline, starting five feet from home and extending another five feet into fair territory
- One hitter at a time steps in with a bat and a helmet
- Set up about fifteen feet in front of the plate with a bucket of balls
- Toss a pitch and have the hitter square around and bunt, feet square to the pitcher and the head of the bat above the handle
- The hitter tries to drop the bunt inside one of the two squares
- Give each hitter a few rounds and have them count how many landed on target
- Challenge them to beat that number the next time through
Coaching Points
- Feet square to the pitcher and the head of the bat above the handle keeps the ball on the ground
- The squares turn a bunt into a placement skill rather than just making contact
- A bunt moves a runner over, and placed well it is also a way to get on base
