Outfield Drill: Pop Quiz (Baseball & Softball)

Team fly ball drill where players must catch a target number of consecutive pop-ups without drops. Builds communication and accountability.

How to Run This Drill

  1. Your team takes the field with players at each position. Stand in front of home with a bucket of balls.
  2. Set a target number of consecutive pop-ups for the team to catch (start with 5).
  3. Throw fly balls all around the field at random. To win, they must hit the target number of catches without the ball hitting the ground.
  4. If anyone drops the ball, they all have to start over at zero.

Coaching Points

  • Secure the catch with both hands - not one hand
  • Call the ball loudly if its coming your way
  • Communicate even when there is no doubt who will catch it
  • Good communication prevents errors in actual games
