Hitting Drill: Knock Out the Catcher (Baseball & Softball)
Fun hitting game for young players. Coach in catcher gear sits on a chair while hitters try to knock them off by hitting the ball hard up the middle.

How to Run This Drill
- Coach dresses in full catcher's gear and sits on a chair 10-15 feet from home plate.
- Coach tosses balls (soft, spongey or wiffleballs) underhand and tells the hitter to knock them off the chair.
- Without knowing it, players are working on hitting the ball hard up the middle.
- You can add a point system if the player hits you.
- Keep the drill fun and avoid getting too technical with young players.
- Toss to the middle part of the plate to naturally encourage proper mechanics.
Coaching Points
- Do not get too technical - keep it fun for young players
- If players are pulling weak ground balls, they are pulling off the ball
- Toss to the outside part of the plate to encourage driving up the middle
- Use soft balls for safety
- Great drill for teaching without lecturing
