Warmup Drill: Easy Team Warm Up Routine for Youth Baseball (Baseball)

A comprehensive team-scale warmup routine combining dynamic movements and progressive throwing exercises, perfect for getting young players ready for practice or games.

Instructions

Begin with light jogging to raise heart rate and warm muscles. Progress through dynamic stretches including leg swings, arm circles, high knees, and butt kicks. Incorporate baseball-specific movements like shuffles and crossover steps. Transition to partner throwing, starting at short distance (30-40 feet) and gradually increasing. Include proper throwing mechanics checkpoints at each distance. Focus on building arm strength progressively while maintaining good form. End with light position-specific movements to prepare for practice activities.

Coaching Points

  • Start with whole-body movements before isolating specific muscle groups
  • Keep players moving continuously - no static stretching during warmup
  • Watch for proper throwing mechanics at each distance
  • Ensure gradual progression in throwing distance - never rush arm warmup
  • Look for signs of discomfort or improper mechanics and address immediately
  • Make it fun and engaging - use games or competitions when appropriate
