Hitting Drill: Beginner Bunting Fundamentals (Baseball & Softball)
Essential bunting technique drill teaching young players proper grip, stance, and bat angle for successful sacrifice bunts and bunt-for-base-hit situations.
Instructions
Start with proper bunting stance: square to pitcher, feet shoulder-width apart. Show proper grip with top hand sliding up bat barrel. Practice catching the ball with the bat rather than swinging. Work on angling bat to direct ball down first or third base line.
Coaching Points
- Keep bat angle consistent - slight downward slope
- Catch the ball with the bat, don't swing
- Keep knees bent and stay balanced
- Eyes on the ball all the way to the bat
- Practice both sacrifice and drag bunt techniques
- Start with stationary ball on tee before live pitching
