How to Run This Drill

  1. Tee set up in front of the middle of the plate at the height of the bat once placed behind hips
  2. Hitter sets up even with the plate, while partner places a ball on the tee
  3. Hitter puts the bat behind their back, resting right above their hips with the barrel of the bat off of their back hip and hooks their arms around the bat
  4. Hitter hits the ball off the tee by firing with the hips and having the hips control the bat to the ball
  5. Partners switch after 10 swings

Coaching Points

  • Bat rests right above hips, barrel off back hip
  • Fire the hips to drive the bat to ball and encourage proper rotation of hips
  • Hips control the bat, not arms
  • Feel hip rotation powering the swing
  • For hitters who are too handsy
  • Power comes from the ground up through hips
