Hitting Drill: Homerun Derby (Baseball & Softball)
Classic hitting competition where players compete to hit the most home runs in a set number of swings. Builds power hitting skills while creating exciting team competition.
Instructions
Set up home plate with defined home run boundaries (fence, cones, or distance markers). Each player gets a set number of swings (5-10) to hit as many home runs as possible. Coach pitches or use batting tee. Keep score and crown the home run champion.
Coaching Points
- Adjust home run distance based on age and skill level
- Focus on proper swing mechanics, not just power
- Encourage players to cheer for teammates
- Consider using softer balls for safety
- Make sure all players get equal number of swings
- Celebrate effort and improvement, not just results
