Team Defense Drill: Pickle (Rundown Game) (Baseball & Softball)
Fun competitive drill teaching rundown fundamentals. Fielders work together to tag out a runner caught between bases in as few throws as possible.

How to Run This Drill
- Set up two bases 60 feet apart with two fielders at each base.
- One runner starts in the middle, caught in a "pickle."
- Fielders run hard at the runner, forcing them to commit to a direction.
- When the runner commits, the fielder throws to the other side where a teammate continues the pursuit.
- Goal is to get the out in two throws or fewer.
- Rotate runners after each out and keep score - fewest throws wins.
Coaching Points
- Run hard at the runner to force them to commit
- Throw only after the runner commits - not before
- Keep the ball in your throwing hand while running
- Receiving fielder should have glove up and be ready
- Goal is two throws maximum for an out
- Kids love this game - great way to end practice
