Hitting Drill: Live Batting Practice (Baseball & Softball)
Standard batting practice allowing players to hit freely. Save coaching for drill work - BP should be fun and build confidence.
How to Run This Drill
- Set up with a bucket of balls and a coach or player throwing (or pitching machine).
- Let each batter take their swings and have fun. This is not the time for heavy coaching.
- Resist the urge to tinker with mechanics during live BP. Make mental notes of issues and address them in drill sessions.
- For older players, mix in situational work: bunting, hit-and-run, moving runners over.
- Give each player enough swings to find a rhythm and build confidence.
- Keep the pace moving so all players get adequate reps.
