Balance Drill - Video Demonstration

How to Run This Drill

  1. Pitcher throws from a mound to a catcher at a shortened distance. Work from the stretch position.
  2. Start the motion by lifting the leg. At the balance point, PAUSE for a full 3-count: one-one-thousand, two-one-thousand, three-one-thousand.
  3. During the pause, check balance position: upper and lower body together, leg slightly closed with butt cheek pointing toward catcher, glove slightly above knee.
  4. The upper body should NOT be leaning back - stay tall and balanced over the back leg.
  5. On the count of 3, stride forward and release the ball.
  6. This drill forces pitchers to gather energy at the balance point so the body and arm come forward together toward home plate.
