Backhand Pick & Stick Fungo - Video Demonstration

How to Run This Drill

  1. Coach positions about 15 feet in front of the catcher and throws balls into the dirt to the left and right sides.
  2. Catcher reads the ball off the throw and moves laterally to get in front of it.
  3. Use backhand technique to redirect the ball down into the dirt - dont try to catch it cleanly.
  4. Keep chest over the ball with chin tucked. The body creates a wall that keeps the ball in front.
  5. After blocking, recover the ball quickly and get into throwing position.
  6. Alternate sides: left, right, left, right. Each catcher gets 10-15 reps per side.
