Fun Drill: 5-Ball Drill (Baseball & Softball)
Fast-paced catching drill where one fielder works behind five scattered baseballs, dropping and blocking, going ball to ball.

How to Run This Drill
- SETUP: Scatter five baseballs a few feet apart. Have catcher's in kneepads start behind the most right-hand ball in catching position.
- On GO, catchers drop and block behind each ball, sliding, dropping and blocking from ball to ball. Make it a competition between catchers to see who can complete the circuit the fastest from right to left, then left to right.
Coaching Points
- Emphasize blocking at an angle. Blocking a ball to the left? The catcher's body should be angled right to direct the ball back towards home plate. While speed and quickness is key in this drill, proper blocking technique is just as important.
