USSSA
USSSA stands for the United States Specialty Sports Association, and its bat standard is the one used by most travel ball and USSSA-sanctioned tournaments. USSSA bats are identified by a 1.15 BPF (Bat Performance Factor) stamp and are "hotter" than USA Baseball bats, meaning the ball comes off the barrel with more energy at the same swing.
Where It's Used
USSSA is common for travel teams roughly ages 8 to 14. Because these bats out-perform the USA standard, they are usually not legal in rec leagues like Little League. Always match the stamp on the bat to the exact requirement of the league or tournament you are playing.
USSSA vs USA vs BBCOR
Think of it as a ladder of performance and levels. Rec ball uses USA Baseball, travel ball uses USSSA, and high school and college use BBCOR. Many players carry more than one bat across a season because they play in leagues with different certification requirements. When in doubt, check the rulebook before you buy.
