BBCOR
BBCOR stands for Batted Ball Coefficient of Restitution, the performance standard required for high school (NFHS) and college (NCAA, NAIA, JUCO) baseball. It limits the "trampoline effect" of a metal or composite barrel so that bats perform much like wood. Every BBCOR bat is a -3 drop weight and carries a "BBCOR Certified .50" stamp.
What It Controls
BBCOR caps how lively the barrel can be, keeping exit velocities in a safe, wood-like range at the levels where pitchers throw hardest. It does not control bat length or feel beyond the fixed -3 drop.
What's Changing
USA Baseball has taken over the standard and renamed it USA BBCOR, and starting with the 2028 season, high school players will also be able to use USABat -4, -5, and -6 bats alongside the -3. All of these meet the same wood-like performance limit, so a lighter drop is not a hotter bat. Bats carrying today's BBCOR certification remain legal for high school play indefinitely.
