Best Baseball and Softball Lineup Apps in 2026, Compared

Search the app store for a baseball lineup app and you get two kinds of results. Team apps that happen to have a lineup screen, and small lineup apps built by a coach who got tired of doing it on the back of a scorecard. Either can work. What matters is whether the app does the four jobs a youth lineup actually has.
What a Lineup App Has to Do
- Rotate positions every inning. The starting lineup is the easy part. The hard part is the third inning, when the kid who caught the first two needs a break and nobody has played first base yet.
- Keep playing time fair, by your league's rules. A minimum number of innings in the field, no sitting two innings in a row, limits on who can pitch or catch. Every rec league writes these a little differently.
- Handle the roster you actually have. The player arriving late from another game, the one leaving early, a co-ed ratio, a 10-player slow pitch defense.
- Print a card. The umpire and the other dugout still want paper.
Most apps do two or three of these well. The table at the bottom shows which.
The Apps
GameChanger
Most teams already have it, and it is free for coaches and staff. You can set the starting lineup, batting order and positions, from the web before the game, and export the lineup card as a PDF to hand the umpire. Over a season it tracks every player's innings at each defensive position, which tells you exactly who has been sitting.
Its newer Generate Best Lineup tool is worth understanding before you press it. It is in beta, runs on the web, and needs at least one scored game. By GameChanger's own description it is designed to maximize team performance: strongest hitters at the top of the order, most experienced players in the field. That is a fair question for a tournament team. In rec ball, where the goal is every kid getting infield innings, it answers a different question than the one you are asking.
Best for: travel and tournament teams already scoring in GameChanger.
TeamSnap
TeamSnap is a team management app with a lineup screen. On the Premium or Ultra team plan, admins can publish a batting order and field positions to the whole roster, built from the players who said they are coming. You set the positions yourself. Lineups live in the iOS and Android apps only, not on the web, and TeamSnap's own help page says they cannot be printed: you take a screenshot.
Best for: teams that already pay for TeamSnap and want the lineup to reach parents alongside the schedule.
Baseball Fielding Rotation App
The single-purpose option. Free to download, with a $9.99 team membership. It builds a fielding rotation that changes every one to three innings, for games up to seven innings, with up to six bench spots that rotate in after the first. You can lock individual players out of first base, catcher, or pitcher, set a batting order, and print the result. It runs on iPhone, iPad, and Android. The last update was March 2025.
Best for: a rec coach who wants the rotation done and nothing else.
Coach Joel's Way Lineups
New in 2026 and built around fair playing time. It generates baseball and softball lineups, lets you set fielding plans inning by inning, tracks each player's innings by position and spots in the batting order across the season, and prints lineup cards. iPhone and iPad for now, with Android in closed beta. The app is free to start and Pro is $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year. It is young, with only a couple of App Store ratings so far, so weigh that.
Best for: iPhone coaches who want a season of playing time history in their pocket.
Rizzler
A broader coaching platform with lineups inside it. The free plan covers a batting order and printable lineup cards. The automatic parts, an AI batting order, AI fielding positions, and a game planner that covers playing time, are on the Coach plan, listed at $7.99 a month. It runs as a web app and an iOS app.
Best for: coaches who want lineups, stats, and team tools under one subscription.
Dugout Edge Lineup Generator
Ours, so read this one knowing that. It runs in your phone's browser, with no download and no account. Add your roster, set your league rules, and it builds a fair batting order and a fielding rotation for every inning.
You can mark the positions each player prefers, can play, or should avoid, and mark who arrives late or leaves early so they are only scheduled for innings they are there. Co-ed settings alternate the batting order and set a fielding minimum for each group. Softball setups include 10-player slow pitch with a short fielder, extra players in the order, and batting the whole team. Drag anything to change it and the generator flags a change that throws off playing time, then export a PDF or CSV. A slider sets how far it leans toward participation or toward a competitive lineup.
The basic generator, printing included, is free. A free account saves your roster. Saving more than one team and keeping lineup history are premium.
What it does not have is an App Store or Google Play listing. If you want an icon, open it in your phone's browser and add it to your home screen.
Best for: rec and co-ed coaches whose league has playing time rules, and softball coaches putting 10 in the field. Build a lineup here.
How to Choose
If your team scores in GameChanger and plays to win, use its lineup card. Just do not let the stats-based suggestion set a rec rotation.
If your team lives in TeamSnap, publish the lineup there so parents see it, but do the rotation math somewhere that does it for you first.
If you coach rec ball with a playing time rule, pick a tool that generates the inning-by-inning rotation: the Baseball Fielding Rotation App, Coach Joel's Way, or the Dugout Edge generator. Give each one your real roster before you commit.
If you coach co-ed or 10-player slow pitch softball, confirm the app handles your format with your actual players before game day, not in the parking lot.
And if you only need a clean card to fill in by hand, you do not need an app at all. Print a lineup card and bring a pencil.

Before Your Next Game
Write your league's lineup rules on one line: minimum innings in the field, how many innings in a row a player can sit, and any limits on who pitches or catches. Then give your top two apps the same roster, including the kid who has to leave after the third inning. The app that meets every rule without you fixing it by hand is the one to keep.
