New: Season Stats Dashboard for Youth Baseball and Softball Coaches

Track position distribution, batting order history, and practice time breakdowns for every player on your roster. Built to help volunteer coaches balance playing time and develop every kid on the team.

Your team page now has a Season Stats Dashboard. Go to your team page, click the Roster tab, and look for the Game Stats / Practice Stats toggle at the top. Game Stats shows position distribution and batting order history across all your games. Practice Stats shows how your practice time breaks down by category for each player. Stats build automatically from every lineup you generate and every practice plan you create.

Why tracking season stats matters for youth coaches

One of the hardest parts of coaching youth baseball or softball is making sure every kid gets a fair shot. Parents notice when their child sits the bench more than others. Players notice when they always play right field. And coaches feel the pressure of trying to win while also developing every player on the roster.

The Season Stats Dashboard gives you a clear picture of how playing time, positions, and practice focus are distributed across your entire team, so you can make adjustments before it becomes a problem.

Game Stats: see the full picture

After generating lineups with the Dugout Edge Lineup Generator, your Game Stats automatically track:

  • Position distribution: color-coded bars showing which defensive positions each player has played throughout the season
  • Batting order history: see where each player has hit in the order across all games
  • Playing time balance: average innings per player and total games with lineups generated
  • Defense and Offense views: toggle between fielding positions and batting order stats

If one player has been at shortstop for 80% of the season while another has barely left right field, you will see it immediately.

Practice Stats: know where your time goes

Coaches who use the Dugout Edge Practice Planner get automatic practice stat tracking that shows:

  • Category breakdown: hitting, fielding, pitching, baserunning, catching, and more
  • Per-player distribution: see how practice time is allocated for each player
  • Team balance summary: are you spending enough time on each skill area?
  • Neglected category warnings: get flagged when core skills drop below 10% of total practice time

If your team has spent 60% of practice on hitting drills and only 5% on baserunning, you will know, and you can adjust your next practice plan accordingly.

How volunteer coaches use this

Most youth baseball and softball coaches are volunteers. They are parents who stepped up because nobody else would. They do not have time to build spreadsheets tracking which kid played which position in which game.

The Season Stats Dashboard does that work automatically. Every lineup you generate and every practice plan you create feeds into the stats. No extra data entry. No spreadsheets. Just open your team page and the data is there.

Balancing playing time in rec leagues

Rec league rules often require equal playing time, but enforcing that across a 15-game season is harder than it sounds. The Season Stats Dashboard makes it simple:

  1. Generate your lineups each week with the Lineup Generator
  2. Check the Game Stats tab on your team page
  3. Look for imbalances in position distribution or batting order
  4. Adjust your next lineup to balance things out

Over the course of a season, every player gets time at multiple positions, everyone moves through the batting order, and you have the data to prove it if a parent asks.

Making smarter lineup decisions

When you open the Lineup Generator to create your next game lineup, your season stats are right there on the team page. Use them to answer questions like:

  • Which players have not played infield yet this season?
  • Who has been stuck in the 9-hole for the last three games?
  • Are we giving our developing pitchers enough innings?
  • Is practice time balanced across all skill categories?

Better data leads to better decisions, and better decisions lead to a better experience for every kid on the team.
