Add YouTube Videos to Your Custom Baseball and Softball Drills

Attach YouTube video links to your custom drills so assistant coaches and players can see exactly how each drill should run before practice.

You can now attach YouTube videos to your custom drills. In the Practice Planner, open your drill library and create a new custom drill or edit an existing one. Below the drill instructions field, you will see a Video URL input where you can paste any YouTube, Vimeo, or direct video link. The video shows up on the drill detail page so your assistant coaches and players can watch exactly how the drill should run.

Show your team how the drill works

Written drill descriptions only go so far. When you are trying to explain a relay drill with cutoffs, double cuts, and backup positions, a 30-second video is worth a thousand words. Now you can attach a YouTube video to any custom drill in your Dugout Edge drill library.

How to add a video to a drill

  1. Go to the Practice Planner and open the drill library
  2. Click Create New Drill or edit an existing custom drill
  3. Below the drill instructions, find the Video URL field
  4. Paste a YouTube, Vimeo, or direct video link
  5. A video preview will appear below the input
  6. Save the drill

Why video matters for youth coaching

Most youth baseball and softball teams rely on volunteer assistant coaches. These are parents who want to help but may not have played the sport at a high level. Giving them a video reference for each drill means:

  • Less time explaining drills at practice, more time running them
  • Consistent execution even when you are not at that station
  • Confidence for assistant coaches who are still learning
  • Players can watch drills at home before practice

Use YouTube videos you already know

You do not need to record your own videos (though you can). There are thousands of great youth baseball and softball drill videos on YouTube. Find one that demonstrates the drill the way you want it run, copy the URL, and attach it to your custom drill.

Works with your practice plans

Custom drills with videos show up in the Practice Planner just like any other drill. When you build a practice plan and assign drills to stations, the video link travels with the drill. Your assistant coaches can tap into the drill from the shared practice plan and watch the video right there.
