Infield Star Drill - Video Demonstration

How to Run This Drill

  1. Divide into two teams: infield (1B, 2B, SS, 3B + catcher) and baserunners
  2. Runner starts on first, rest wait on foul line
  3. Coach hits ground ball to second baseman
  4. As ball is hit, runner takes off trying to score
  5. 2B fields and throws to 3B (on bag), 3B throws to 1B (on bag), 1B throws to SS (at 2B), SS throws home
  6. If ball beats runner home = out. If runner scores = point for baserunners
  7. After all runners go, teams switch

Coaching Points

  • Ball must touch every base in star pattern
  • Runners go all out - no slowing down
  • Infielders must be on bags for throws
