Pitching Drill: Comebacker Drill (Baseball & Softball)

Teaches pitchers to follow through in fielding position and make the play on balls hit back through the box. Also practice 1-6-3 double plays.

How to Run This Drill

  1. Pitchers line up behind the mound with first basemen at their positions.
  2. First pitcher throws a pitch from the mound to the catcher.
  3. After the pitch crosses the plate, coach hits or rolls a ball back to the pitcher.
  4. Pitcher fields the ball, steps toward first base, and makes an accurate throw.
  5. Follow the throw, but not as exaggerated as an infielder would.
  6. Mix in double play situations (1-6-3) to practice turning two as well as based loaded scenarios
