Fielding Drill: 2nd Baseman Forehand Spin (Baseball)
Advanced double play feed where second baseman fields on the run toward second and uses forehand spin to deliver ball to shortstop.
Instructions
Coach hits ground ball toward second base side of second baseman Second baseman fields ball moving toward second base As ball is fielded, second baseman plants and spins on glove-side foot Uses forehand flip motion to feed ball to shortstop Ball should arrive chest high as shortstop touches the bag Shortstop completes the feed, throws to first base (optional) Rotate through 10 reps, then switch positions if time allows
Coaching Points
- Field the ball on the move - don't stop
- Plant and spin on glove foot
- Flip is with palm facing shortstop
- Lead the shortstop to the bag
- This is a momentum feed - use the movement
- Communication is critical on all feeds
