Don’t let the word “academy” fool you. Ego, pride, and wins is all they want. Overrated coaches that act like they’re working for a MLB team, playing their favorites. No development here. Lower level players are unwelcome and a burden. Their website is a front, and their communications is horrible. There are far better travel team organizations with development elsewhere that will connect with you on a one on one basis and evaluate the player as an opportunity regardless of their numbers. I overheard a coach during tryouts share his thoughts with another coach at Davenport University, and I was shocked of what I heard. I could not believe this man would be allowed to be on the field in any coach capacity. It’s all about his personal favorites and out with the new litter. Regardless if we made it on a team here, we would not be interested. We saw their true colors.

Tryouts for 24-25 were well organized. Afterwards not a peep as to whether my son made a team or not. Emailed to ask. No response. Please understand this puts people in a bind when choices need to be made for an upcoming season. A simple yes or no is plenty sufficient.

Sluggers has a great crew of instructors and they are very accommodating as far as booking cage time. I usually bring my team in a couple times per season for extra practices. Some of my players have opted to take individual lessons through Sluggers and have been very pleased with the developmental help they receive.
