Frequently asked questions
Can I book a batting cage through Dugout Edge?+
No. Dugout Edge is a directory that helps you find and compare batting cages across the U.S. Each facility page links to the venue's own website and phone number, where you can book directly. We don't process reservations or take payments on behalf of any facility.
How much do batting cages cost?+
Most batting cages charge by the token or by the hour. Typical ranges are $1 to $3 per token (usually 15 to 25 pitches) or $30 to $60 per hour for a private cage. Training facilities with HitTrax or Rapsodo run $40 to $80 per hour. Lessons from a hitting coach are usually $60 to $100 per 30 minutes.
What is the difference between indoor and outdoor batting cages?+
Indoor batting cages let you hit year-round regardless of weather, usually with adjustable pitching machine speeds and often with data tools like HitTrax. Outdoor cages are typically cheaper and feel more like live pitching, but depend on weather and daylight.
Are batting cages good for serious baseball or softball players?+
Yes. Training-focused facilities offer machine speeds up to 90+ mph, softball-specific slow and fast pitch machines, private lessons with former college or pro players, and data tools like HitTrax, Rapsodo, and Blast Motion. Look for the "Training" tag on our facility pages.
Can I host a birthday party at a batting cage?+
Most recreational batting cages host birthday parties. The venue usually provides cage time, helmets, bats, tokens, and a party area. Prices typically start around $200 to $400 for a 90-minute party for 8 to 12 kids. Look for the "Recreational" tag and the "Birthday Parties" feature.
What should I bring to a batting cage?+
Closed-toe athletic shoes (cleats are usually not allowed indoors), a batting helmet with cage or face guard, batting gloves, and your own bat if you have one. Most cages provide loaner bats and helmets but they wear out fast, so your own gear is more comfortable and safer.
