Throwing Drill: Cutoff Relay Race (Baseball & Softball)
Relay race where groups compete making throws from the outfield to home. Teaches quick transfers, proper footwork, and turning toward the glove side.
How to Run This Drill
- Create groups of 3-5 players standing in a straight line, evenly spaced from the outfield to home.
- All groups start at the same time. The first player picks up a ball near the warning track.
- First player throws to the second, who turns toward their glove side, catches with two hands, and throws to the next.
- Continue the relay until the ball reaches the last player at home plate.
- First team to complete the relay wins.
- Emphasize turning toward the glove side - not the throwing side - to generate momentum.
