How to Run This Drill

  1. Catcher in full gear in receiving position
  2. Coach or player throws balls in the dirt
  3. Catcher blocks the ball properly
  4. Immediately pick up ball and get to throwing position
  5. Focus on speed of recovery
  6. Repeat with throws at different angles

Coaching Points

  • Block first, then recover
  • Keep the ball in front of you
  • Quick hands to throwing position
  • Popping up to feet > popping up to knees
