Low-A

  • Crow-hop transfer on throws to the infield
  • Knows where to back up on plays
High-A
  • Reads ball off bat — good first step
  • Catches over the shoulder on the run
  • Throws on a line, hits relay on a hop
Double-A
  • Average to plus jump on balls in the gap
  • Plays the wall safely
  • Makes the do-or-die throw home
Triple-A
  • Plus range to either side, dives correctly
  • Decoys runners with calm body language
  • Pre-pitch positioning by hitter / pitcher tendency
Major League
  • Top-tier OF arm + range for age
  • Makes spectacular plays look routine
  • Reads pitcher / hitter and adjusts during PA
All-Star
  • Recruitable / pro-level OF tools (5-tool prospect range)
  • Elite jumps + routes confirmed by tracking data
  • Plus arm at the position (CF: range; corner: arm)
How to use this rubric
  1. Evaluate the player against every level’s criteria, lowest first.
  2. Assign the highest level where they meet ALL criteria.
  3. The next level’s criteria become this season’s focus.
  4. Re-evaluate at mid-season & end-of-season checkpoints.
