Infield Drill: Short Fungos (Baseball & Softball)
Standard infield practice hitting ground balls to all positions. Adapt difficulty to player skill level and field conditions.
How to Run This Drill
- Before starting, ensure players understand basic ground ball fundamentals. Check field conditions.
- With one coach: hit ground balls to each infield position in rotation. Start with shortstop, then second, first, third.
- With two coaches: one hits to third base and shortstop from the first base side, other hits to second and first from the third base side.
- Start with players just lobbing balls back or placing in a bucket. Progress to throwing to first base once warmed up.
- Adapt the speed and difficulty of ground balls to each player's skill level. Players getting beaten up with bad hops are not improving.
- Rotate so each position gets live reps throwing to first base before the drill ends.
