Seven-stage throwing progression appropriate for youth players. Total throwing time should not exceed 15-20 minutes.

How to Run This Drill

  1. Stage 1: Dynamic Arm Warmup - Arm circles and cross-body swings, light and controlled.
  2. Stage 2: Close Distance (20-30 feet) - Establish proper grip, high elbow, and step to target. Minimum 10 throws at this distance.
  3. Stage 3: First Progression (40 feet) - Same mechanics, slightly more effort. Watch for form maintenance.
  4. Stage 4: Second Progression (50-60 feet) - Add emphasis on hip and shoulder rotation.
  5. Stage 5: Third Progression (60-90 feet) - Appropriate for older youth, maintain all mechanical points.
  6. Stage 6: Accuracy Work - At comfortable distance, throw to specific targets.
  7. Stage 7: Cool Down - Return to moderate distance with easy throws. Total throwing time should not exceed 15-20 minutes for youth arms.

  • Watch for form breakdown at each stage
  • Add rotation emphasis at 50-60 feet
  • Finish with accuracy work
