Outfield Drill: Fly Ball Communication Drill (Baseball & Softball)
Teaches outfielders to call for fly balls loudly and clearly to prevent collisions. Communication is the key to safety in the gaps.
How to Run This Drill
- Position two or three outfielders in a line.
- Coach hits or throws fly balls into the gap between fielders.
- Players must call "I got it!" or "Ball!" loudly and repeatedly until the catch is made.
- The coach can yell out a number that corresponds to each player, or you can make one player the center fielder who will have priority if they call it.
- Non-catching players should echo "You! You! You!" or not say anything at all.
- Start with tennis balls and underhand tosses for younger players, then progress to fungo hits.
